Colored Contact Lens

With the advent of contact lenses, now they can make a perfectly colored contact lens. There are three types of colored contact lenses: opaque color tints, enhancement tints, and visibility tints.

The majority of all colored contact lens come in plano form too, which means that they are worn solely for cosmetic purposes, and thus have no vision corrective features to them. Of course you may also purchase a disposable colored contact lens if you need them for vision correction due to your need for bifocals, or if you have astigmatism.

Color tints are created by deeper opaque tints that will enable the wearer to change their eye color completely. Ordinarily they use patterns of solid colors, and the reason for patterns is that the human eye is not solidly colored so that if you pick gray, amethyst, violet, blue, green or hazel eye colors, there will be variations found in the coloring.

Some of these color tint lenses will even feature tiny colored dots in order to make them appear more natural on the eye. The center of the lens, where your pupil is, ordinarily is clear which will enable you to see through them.

An enhancement tint will be a solid color but will be translucent, thus the tint will be a bit darker than that found in a visibility tint. Enhancement tints do change eye color, but is meant to enhance the patient's eye color, in effect, make it more intense. This colored contact lens works especially well on people with light colored eyes to begin with.

Now a visibility tint will usually show up as a very light green or light blue tint to the lens itself, and is not truly a colored contact lens. It will not affect the wearer's eye color, but instead it is there so that it is better seen for both removal and insertion, and also is immensely helpful if the lens is dropped.

There are also some a theatrical or costume colored contact lens. These will enable the wearer to appear as an alien, or even a cat, and are mainly used for such occasions as Halloween. Just think of the various lenses used in films and the effect they cause to get a really good idea of how these can change your looks!

Not all color contact lens wearers can wax eloquent about the advantages of their lenses. Some complain that the colored portion of the lens may occasionally slip over the pupil thereby obliterating sight. This will usually happen during a blink. Vision may also be affected during sleep as the pupil enlarges during sleep, and thus if you open your eyes suddenly the clear portion of the lens may not be large enough to accommodate your enlarged pupils, thus some variations in sight may be noticed.
